The biggest advantage to using essential oils over medications is that these work naturally with your body to trigger positive emotions and block negative ones.

  1. Lavender Oil

Listed first because it’s easily the most well-known essential oil, lavender oil has a number of benefits. It has been shown to help with a number of nervous-system problems such as anxiety, inability to sleep, irritability, and panic attacks. There have been a number of studies done on lavender oil, and they all show that it does help people in anxiety-inducing situations.


  1. Chamomile Oil

Better known for calming stomachs as a tea, chamomile essential oils can also help with anxiety. Several medical studies done using chamomile oil capsules found that it can help with worry, irritability, general anxiety and depression. Although it’s safe for most people, if you have a ragweed allergy, you may also be allergic to chamomile, so be careful when trying it.


  1. Rose Oil

The oils derived from the rose have been found to help with nervous system-related problems such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks and shock. One study done that proved this gave 10-minute foot baths to first-time pregnant women. The half that had rose essential oils mixed into the foot bath had significantly less anxiety afterwards compared to the control group that had plain water.


  1. Bergamot Oil

This essential oil can often be found in Earl Grey tea and combined with lavender oils to create a calming blend. It has primarily been used to help treat depression, but also has calming effects such as reducing agitation and inducing relaxation. One study showed a clear reduction in pulse rate and blood pressure in participants who received a bergamot and lavender oil blend.


  1. Vetiver Oil

Vetiver essential oils are great for helping you feel more grounded and relaxed when experiencing generalized anxiety, but it can also help with shock and panic attacks. Although there isn’t much research to back up the effects of vetiver oil, it is still considered to be one of the best for helping to combat anxiety and to help you relax.

Essential oils are a great natural way to help alleviate anxiety as long as you use them properly. That being said, always make sure you fully research an essential oil before you begin using it to make sure you are using it in a way that will be the most effective for your problem. The most common ways that essential oils are administered are orally in capsule form, topically by placing them on your skin, and through aromatherapy.
