Natural Headache Remedies

There are several different types of headaches that you can get and they are caused by many different things that it’s hard to know exactly what will work for each type of headache. However, these natural headache remedies should help provide you with fast relief from a number of types of headaches and could help you with chronic headaches as well.

Natural Headache Remedies

  1. Essential Oils

The two best essential oils for headache relief are lavender oil and peppermint oil. Lavender helps to relax you which is especially good for headaches brought on by stress, and migraines. Peppermint stimulates blood flow where applied to reduce pain. To use these essential oils for headache relief, mix a couple drops with a carrier oil and rub them onto your forehead, temple, and the back of your neck.

  1. Magnesium

One of the most common causes of headaches is a magnesium deficiency, and one of the best natural headache remedies is magnesium. You can take magnesium in pill form for immediate relief, but if you have frequent headaches or migraines, you should consider adding a daily supplement and more magnesium-rich foods to your diet.

  1. Visit the Chiropractor

If your headache is caused by improper alignments in your spine that are pinching nerves or blood vessels, a visit to the chiropractor could offer you immediate and complete headache relief. For chronic headaches that could be at least in part caused by too many free radicals in the blood, regular chiropractic care can help your body get rid of free radicals.

  1. Go Gluten-Free

While people with severe forms of celiac disease have potentially life-threatening responses to gluten, many others have less severe forms of this disease which may only show up in the form of headaches or migraines. To see if gluten is the cause of your frequent headaches, try going gluten-free for 3 weeks, then slowly add sources of gluten back in and pay attention to how they make you feel.

  1. Yoga

When you spend a lot of time sitting in front of a screen or looking down at your phone, it causes a buildup of toxins and puts a strain on your neck and eyes that can lead to a headache. By doing a couple of relaxing yoga poses, you can stretch to increase blood flow which helps to remove toxins. Try relaxing poses like child’s pose or downward-facing dog to get headache relief.

In addition to following these suggestions, it’s also important to make sure that you are drinking enough water every day and getting enough sleep every night, as dehydration and fatigue cause headaches, too.
